Season Two[]

In Holiday Hookah, Maurice was with Gregory for a boys' night out. They went to a hookah bar where they met Janine and her friend, Erika. Inside the bar, Maurice noticed that Janine was alone, so he apprised Gregory that he was going to talk to her. When Gregory discouraged him from doing so, he asked if he could talk to Ava, instead. When Gregory asked that he talk to anyone but his co-workers, he left to speak with another girl in the club. Some time later, he went looking for Gregory, only to find Janine alone outside the club. He made some small talk with her, revealing that Gregory told him about her class's egg drop experiment. He finally introduced himself and they exchanged numbers.

In Fundraiser, Janine revealed that shortly after meeting in the hookah bar, she and Maurice had been texting each other. She said that she found him genuine. Maurice lived a short distance from school so one day, he came by to visit. He ran into one of Janine's students who was selling candy. He initially refused to buy some, but after learning that they were Janine's students, he bought $10 worth of candy. There, he asked Janine out on a date, to which Janine happily accepted. At first, Gregory discouraged Janine from going out with him, but after some time, Gregory became supportive of them seeing each other.

In Valentine's Day, Maurice came by after school to give Janine a surprise gift. He gave her an expensive Telfar bag. Although, earlier that day, Janine had hoped that he would give her some tape since he had easy access to shipping materials, and she always needed tape.

In Fire, Janine opened up about their first date with a trauma counselor sent by the district due to the fire at Abbott.

In Mural Arts, Maurice dropped by Janine's classroom at lunch to surprise deliver her lunch. Janine asked that they go somewhere private, with plans to break up with him after the incident at the teacher conference. Maurice suggested that they go to Bone Town, a rib joint in Philly, oblivious to Janine's plan. When Gregory found out that Janine was planning to break up with Maurice, he insisted that he tell Maurice what happened during the conference. The two decided to tell Maurice together, so Gregory goes to Bone Town, too. After the two tell Maurice what happened, Maurice was very understanding and was willing to continue having a relationship with Janine. However, when Janine told him that she was breaking up with him in front of Gregory, Maurice found the gesture "sick" and asked them both to leave. He proceeded to eat his baby back ribs alone.

In Franklin Institute, Maurice ran into Janine when the latter was waiting outside school, getting ready to head to Franklin Institute. Janine apologized once again to Maurice for how their relationship ended. Maurice admitted that Gregory had told him not to pursue her but he did so anyway so it was just the both of them being selfish. Janine denied being selfish, but Maurice pointed out that inviting a guy to his favorite barbeque restaurant just to break up with him in front of his friend who she kissed was selfish. This made Janine realize that she was being selfish for hurting him the way she did.
