Martin Eddie is a recurring character in Abbott Elementary. He is the father of Gregory Eddie.

He is portrayed by Orlando Jones.

History[]

Early Life[]

Sometime in the 60's, Martin's father started a landscaping company named Eddie Lawn and Care. In the '90's, Martin took over the company and has been active in running it ever since.

Martin used to be in the military as his son, Gregory, calls him Lt. Colonel Martin Eddie.

Season 1[]

In Art Teacher, Martin's philosophy in gardening was shown to have been instilled in Gregory, as the latter was unable to resist in helping with Barbara and Jacob's gardening.

In Work Family, Martin called Gregory to ask if his son got the job listings that he emailed him. He saw teaching as a babysitting gig and did not consider it to be a real job. He then asked Gregory to come and work at his landscaping company to do a "real man's job." He proceeded to belittle Gregory's ambition of becoming a principal.

Season 2[]

In Fight, Martin visited Gregory at Abbott Elementary. He was in town for a landscaping job, so he decided to visit his son's workplace. Gregory toured him around the school and when they reached the teachers' lounge, Gregory introduced him to Barbara and Jacob. The two introduced themselves as the caretakers of the Abbott Garden, but Martin noted that whoever tended it was using a classic Eddie family method, albeit with a slightly improved design. Barbara and Jacob realized that it had been Gregory who was tilling their garden all along. This made Martin happy as it showed that his son couldn't keep himself out of the dirt.

Later that day, he called his son to tell him how proud he was and that he was impressed with how he continued their landscaping legacy. He then invited his son to help him out with the landscaping job for some extra cash. Gregory relented and joined him after school.

As they were gardening, Martin shared that he was planning on renaming Eddie Lawn and Care to Eddie and Son Lawn Care. He told Gregory that he did not want his son working for him, but rather that he worked with him. He wanted to retire and leave the family business to Gregory. He was hard on him because he wanted to know that Gregory could carry his own weight and what he saw earlier proved to him that he could. He added that he had never seen Gregory more confident.

However, Gregory declined his offer. Teaching was what gave Gregory his confidence. Gregory had never liked gardening before, but he liked doing it in Abbott.
