Delisha Sloss

Delisha Sloss is a recurring character in Abbott Elementary. She is a board member of the Philadelphia School Board Council. She also goes to the same church as Barbara Howard, where she is on its finance committee.

She is portrayed by Shirley Jordan.

History[]

Season 1[]

In Ava vs. Superintendent, Barbara and the other Abbott teachers were thinking of ways to help Ava in securing budget for the school. Knowing Ava's ineptitude, Melissa and Barbara agreed that there was no way that the superintendent would approve their request for discretionary funds. There was a way, however to secure the Advancement Grant the the school board awards annually. Melissa suggested that they do a little arm-twisting to get the Grant. Melissa found a connection at the school board through Delisha Sloss who goes to the same church as Barbara. According to Melissa's guy, Delisha's on the finance committee at church and Barbara identified her as one of the shadier members of their church. Since Delisha has been skimming cash off the church's funds for years, Melissa suggested that they shake her down to ensure that they get the grant. Barbara hesitated initially.

Delisha and Barbara saw each other on the day of Ava's presentation in front of the school board. After much thought and acknowledging the possibility of Ava not being able to secure the needed discretionary funds, Barbara followed Delisha to the bathroom and decided to shake her down. After Ava's presentation, Delisha caught up to Barbara before the latter left, and informed her that after talking to her office, they have decided that Abbott Elementary would be the recipient of the Advancement Grant.

Season 2[]

In Fundraiser, Delisha was in the mall when she found Barbara, Ava and other Abbott students selling their candy. She commented on how she knew that the students were from Abbott since she would never find Addington students doing "this sort of thing." Barbara retorted that they were just filling in the gaps left by the district. When Barbara and a student were selling Delisha some candy for $1, she went on to confirm the price because she had just bought some candy earlier for $2. It turned out that Ava encouraged some of the students to sell the candy for a higher price and to keep the extra amount as their incentive. Delisha commented disapprovingly at how she was not surprised to see Barbara shaking down people once again. She added that it was simply not church-like.

In Festival, when the teachers of Abbott found out that there was a petition to turn the school to charter, Barbara thought of going to Delisha to "butter her up" and see what she could do for them on the school board level. Unfortunately, Barbara discovered that Draemond had already "buttered her up."
