Season 2[]
Ashley enters the scene at the very end of Story Samurai, arriving as relief from the district when Melissa finally accepts Ava's offer of an aide for her combined 2nd/3rd grade class. She makes her grand entrance with a boombox (that she forgets to turn on), dancing and singing to her own rendition of Jennifer Lopez's "Waiting For Tonight": "Waiting for Ashley, ohh-ohh-ohh, I'll be the aide of your dreams." As Ashley shimmies back out of Ava's office, Melissa's face suggests this might not be the relief she hoped for, while the Story Samurai fall over themselves in the hallway.
Ashley establishes herself in Juice, introducing herself to the documentary crew: "Ashley Garcia, Frankford, Philly. Old enough to know better, young enough to sheesh. And I'm here at Abbott as an aide 'cause I'm helpful as hell. That's why I've been at four schools in four months. 'Cause everyone wants a piece."
She quickly grates on Melissa's nerves but finds a powerful ally in Ava, who appreciates Ashley's enthusiasm for her latest money-making scheme. Melissa isn't impressed, snatching away the bag of change Ashley had absconded with ("for my science lesson on momentum"), and advises, "You want your own quarters, date your own vending machine guy." Ashley continues to derail Melissa's lessons, then irks Barbara when, after admitting to drinking 10 juices during lunch, she refuses to cede priority to a kindergartner in Barbara's classroom's bathroom line.
By the episode's end, things seem to thaw as Melissa takes Jacob's advice -- that she'd get better results from Ashley if she made an effort to connect -- when she encouragingly replies, "Maybe when you're older" to Ashley's request for her own baseball bat.
The next episode, Candy Zombies, finds Ashley an enthusiastic costume twin with Melissa (they're both Scarlet Witch in a series of WandaVision references) but quickly in over her head, as the school's mountain of Halloween candy gets stolen on her watch. In the chaos, she slides awkwardly out of the frame at a glacial pace, suggesting her days at Abbott are over.
She makes a surprise triumphant return, radiating confidence and enthusiastic as ever, when she joins Gregory as an honoree in Educator of the Year. She also assists Mr. Johnson in a new endeavor, as Barbara discovers at the episode's end.
